VMware ESXi Version and Build Number Reference

Sometimes it can be hard to tell the version and update number of an ESXi instance. As such I thought it would be good to catalogue what I know here.

Working out the build to product version was always troublesome. The list above started because I needed to know the level vSphere clients and converters were at.

While browsing around this morning I have come across a post in the VMware Knowledge Base, so we now have a full and official list.

  • 03/07/2016 - Added ESXi 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 GA releases
  • 10/12/2018 - Added ESXi 6.0 GA, 6.7 GA and 6.7 Update 1
